Do not download / acquire tables from sources other than the Digital Pinball Network*. And do not re-distribute any downloaded tables.

Say NO to table packs!
A table pack is any method of distributing VP tables en-masse (examples include archive files, torrents, installers containing tables, v-cabinets containing pre-installed tables, and distributed flash drives / hard drives / Solid State drives / CDs / DVDs).
All FP / VPX table packs, including ones distributed freely, should be avoided, condemned, and reported for removal. They may seem like an easy and convenient way to put many tables on your set-up. But they do a horrible disservice to the VP community.
Authors spend countless hours generously putting together the VP tables you acquire for no monetary gain. This comes with the expectation, since you don't pay for the tables with money, that you will contribute in other ways to the authors:
- You will go to the official download page of the tables and download from there, resulting in the authors receiving a "download" scored on their file, thereby increasing the ranking of their table on the site
- You will leave an honest rating for the table depending on its quality
- You will leave constructive feedback for the authors as comments on the download page or on the forum thread
- You will report any issues or bugs you discover with the table
Not to mention, table packs may contain viruses / malware or very old versions of tables.
Making these tables are not possible without the collective feedback of the community. And table packs take all of this value away.
Legitimate VP sites and members will NEVER distribute table packs of ANY kind!
Frequently Asked Questions
This FAQ will cover some of the nuances of running VPX and VPX tables in different situations, and if you are allowed to do so.
Can I distribute VPX or VPX tables as part of a purchase (e.g. v-cabinet software)?
NO! This goes against every core value of the VP community. It is also in gross violation of the VPX license agreement. The community will take action against anyone who does this.
If you want to "distribute" VPX tables, you should instead direct people to the sites listed above for the Digital Pinball Network so they can download the tables they want on their own.
...what about distributing it for free as part-
NO! Don't distribute VPX / VPX tables, period, unless you're uploading them to one of the vetted Digital Pinball Network sites mentioned above and you are the author of said table(s).
Can I distribute cabinet software which will download or update VPX tables automatically?
NO! Just like table packs, this takes away from the value of the VP community. Cabinet owners must go to the Digital Pinball Network sites if they want to download or update the tables they want. Do not offer any automated means to do this.
Can I charge money per game on a VPX table (e.g. a virtual cabinet with a coin door)?
No! VPX is for personal and non-commercial use only. You are not allowed to profit off of its use. That violates the license agreement of the program.
Can I offer VPX games on free-play with a cover charge or a necessary purchase?
No! You are still profiting from the use of VPX via the cover charge, which is against the VPX license agreement.
Is there any way I can offer VPX tables for play in my business?
Technically yes, but it is still highly frowned upon in the VP community because it's not *personal* use. If you have VPX games available in your business for playing, the games are free, you have no cover charges, and you fully allow anyone to come to your place of business to play those games without making any purchases at your business... then you are technically okay. You probably wouldn't want to do that though because businesses usually consider non-patrons as solicitors.
Can I use VPX games as a means to raise money for charity?
Only if you do not require any purchase or donation of any kind to play the game; e.g. anyone should be allowed to come play the game for free without making any contribution to the charity. Donations for the charity should be accepted only on a volunteer / optional basis.
Can I charge money for the development of a VPX table?
That depends. Usually this is frowned upon, but you can accept volunteer "buy me a coffee or beer" donations from the community if you like. You may also, for example, charge for your services as an artist, musician, voice actor, etc., if you do so normally as part of your business (not directly in regards to VPX). And it is acceptable to receive monetization for videos you produce of your VPX table development on streaming platforms.
However, the rule to keep in mind is that the development of VPX tables must not be contingent on you receiving any financial contributions for it. Financial contributions should be considered a "blessing", not an "expectation". Remember, this is a hobby, and we develop tables out of our passion and enthusiasm for pinball... not for money. If money is your motive, then the VPX / FP community is not the place for you; consider applying to work for proprietary / commercial pinball game developers instead.
